As rumors continue to swirl on how soon 2B prospect Jason Kipnis might be recalled, it is the bullpen mafia that adds a young gun, if only temporarily. Today, closer Chris Perez was placed on the bereavement list due to the death of his grandmother. RHP Josh Judy, who made his major league debut on 05.22, was recalled to take the spot on the 25-man roster. Based on his past experience finishing games and his dirty, nasty stuff, we can expect Vinnie Pestano to fill in for Perez during the absence. MLB rules stipulate that any player on the bereavement list must miss at least 3 and no more than 7 games.
And I got all excited at the call-up, hoping that Bad Durbin had been released.
Would it not have been awesome if he had been summoned from the pen on Tuesday (he was warming) and surrendered the Wily Mo Pena (see a great piece on Wily here) walk-off? And then got unceremoniously kicked to the curb?
Ah, a man can dream.
Cheers.
